Basecamp debacle
If a weekly topic in the IT world should be chosen, the Basecamp policy changes would definitely be the first choice. I recollected some of the things I read related to the subject.

Learnings
For a new project at my job I’m evaluating a series of API Gateway. During this week I’ve been playing with Tyk API Gateway.
It’s a gateway built in Go, with many features available out of the box, like rate limiting, authentication, version control, GraphQL support, monitoring and much more.
If you want to know more about API Gateways here’s some articles I read recently:
- Pattern: API Gateway / Backends for Frontends
- An API Gateway is not the new Unicorn
- Building Microservices: Using an API Gateway
- The API gateway pattern versus the Direct client-to-microservice communication
I’ve also been playing with the Fastify Gateway library to overcome some of the limitations I’ve been facing with conventionals gateways.
Investing into crypto futures I learned about Trailing Stop Orders.
Random stuff
This NYTimes article about a common state of mind during the pandemic quite resonated with me: There’s a Name for the Blah You’re Feeling: It’s Called Languishing.
Another look at mental health in the workplace Microsoft studied worker brains during endless meetings
I watched Mank on Netflix, one of the movies nominated to the Academy Awards as Best Picture. It’s about the screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz and the writing of his masterpiece screenplay of Citizen Kane. Extremely recommendable, solid 9.
I finished watching Demon Slayer, a very famous recent anime about, you guessed it, a wannabe demon slayer and his voyage to avenge the murder of his family and to find a cure for her sister that turned into a demon. Vote: 8. Looking forward to watch the movie and the second season coming this year.
Languages
Japanese
I started studying Japanese on Duolingo less than 2 weeks ago. This week on Duolingo I’ve learned some Hiragana: が (ga), ぎ (gi), ぐ (gu), げ (ge), ご (go), ざ (za), じ (ji), ず (zu), ぜ (ze), ぞ (zo), and some basic words: ひらがな (hiragana), まんが (manga), なっとう (Nattō - fermented beans)
French
As I recently started studying Japanese I left my French study abandoned a little, but I kept replaying old Duolingo lessons, and did the first French lesson of the Pimsleur course
I’ve also been playing with Polygloss a new app to learn languages.
